Photo Seven - Motion

For my final assignment, I decided to take motion pictures. When deciding what to take pictures of, I thought it might be cool to use different shutter speeds and create different effects to convey the motion of water. I figured that Millpond Park would be the perfect place, so I borrowed my friend and headed down there. She went in the river and began throwing water around her, and I set my shutter speed and took various pictures of it. I like the composition and the contrast of the picture that I chose as my best.

Photo Six - Shadows and Light

I chose to do shadows and light for this week's photo assignment. At times it was kind of difficult, trying to get the image I saw with my eyes captured as a picture - while showing the different contrasts. It was also difficult to decide which one I liked the best - there were many that I did like, however, I wasn't sure if they necessarily fit the category. I ended up picking this photo because it seems to fit the category the best out of all my other pictures, and I like how the leaves look really clear and frosted.

Portrait Demo

For this week's assignment, we learned how to take two different styles of portrait pictures. The first (right) was with window lighting. To do this, you simply need three people: a model, a photographer, and someone to hold a big poster board. The model stands 90 degrees away from the window, facing the photographer, and the third person holds the board at about a 45 degree angle from the model. The end result gives you really nice, soft light with a slight shadow on the model's face. The picture on the left was taken with studio lighting. There were several different lights set up similar to the window lighting, with a simple white backdrop as well. My picture ended up looking really shiny, but I guess altogether the results were pretty good.

Photo Five - Open

I chose to do my open assignment for this week's photo. After last week's Gimp project, I thought it might be cool to continue with the Polaroid theme. I took a series of different pictures that were really simple and felt kind of retro-ish. I then edited the pictures in Gimp to make them a little bit grainy and gave them the typical Polaroid layout. In general, I honestly wasn't that happy with the way they turned out, but I decided that this would be my best picture. I like how the leaf looks like lace and lines up with the tree on the right.

Context Change - Polaroid

In this assignment we were to take a picture of the school and change the context of it to something you probably wouldn't expect to see. I'm a big fan of Polaroids, so I decided to transform my hallway picture in this way. I tried to make the picture a little grainy and out of focus and cropped in pictures of different people from various decades of the 1900s. I'm pretty happy with the end result :)

Photo Four - Portrait

I chose to shoot portrait pictures for this week's photo assignment. It was quite a challenge at times, trying to get my little brother to co-operate and it ended up becoming a three day 'photo shoot', if you will. After the hundreds of pictures, however, there were a few that I really did like. I wasn't exactly sure of which one was my best, but it was his expression in this one that won me over. I felt that it really captured the simple, sweet side of his personality.

Panoramic

In today's editing assignment, we learned how to make a panoramic photo. To do this, we first took at least three different pictures that all came together with a 10-20 percent overlap. Next, we edited the pictures in Gimp and did the best we could to blend the three together. I think the end result is pretty cool.

Photo Three - Black and White

I chose to do Black and White for this week's photo assignment. This picture really captured my attention, and in a way, seems that it might leave the viewer wondering. I like how the pattens and lines come together and fill the frame.

Motion Demo

In the motion demo today we learned how to pan with a moving object. Panning creates an effect that brings the moving object in focus and blurs everything else, almost as if the background seems to be moving. To do this, we adjusted our technical settings for the bright outdoors as Mr. Bush went around and around on his bike.

Photo Two - Macro

For this week's photo assignment, I chose to do macro. I took me awhile to pick my best picture, but I decided that this would be the one. I like how the picture draws attention to the tiny leaf despite all that surrounds it.

Photo Retouching

For our second editing assignment we explored the many different possibilities of photo retouching in Gimp. We took Noelle Jacob's auto show picture and transformed it into something you might see in a magazine.

Photo One - Nature

For the first photo assignment I chose nature. After a somewhat-awkward laying on shells at the beach, and several weird looks, I decided that this would be my best picture. I like the different perspective the photo gives compared your average beach picture.

Pop Art

Today we edited our first photo using Gimp. The purpose of this assignment was to learn about and become more familiar with the program. In order to do this, we made an Andy Warhol/"Pop Art" style picture.
